Who is The L.E.A.N MindBody Coach?

Hi friend, my name is Ken Barnes, I am the father of two girls who light up my life.

They are my WHY for living a L.E.A.N Lifestyle, for without my health I cannot be the kind of father I want to be to them. I want to be fit and healthy for when my first and second grandchild arrives. I am a certified Health Ccoach and the founder of the L.E.A.N MIndBody Method and Behaviour Change Pathway.

The L.E.A.N MindBody Method book and programme activities are affectionately dedicated to my beloved mother Inez Barnes who is always in my memory and forever in my heart; without whom, I would not have graced this world.

It was her sad passing away through weight-related conditions and the grief that consumed me, that led me down the path to discover, understand, develop and live the ideas and concepts of The L.E.A.N MindBody Method.

Although I was a qualified Health Coach at the time of her passing, my efforts to assist her with her weight loss proved ineffective using the knowledge I possessed when she was alive. I hope that the knowledge that I gained after her passing, although it came too late to assist with my mother’s weight and health, will be able to assist many thousands of people in years to come in their efforts to lose weight and improve their health and develop a L.E.A.N Lifestyle.

One of the highs of my L.E.A.N Lifestyle journey was when my two girls told me how great they thought their dad was looking.

They told me how proud of me they were that I have made such a change, especially as I was now over 50 years old. They loved having their old, energetic and fun dad back!

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

Once you join Tribe you will have access to our Knowledge Centres which contain lots of information about what keto and low carb is, the foods you can eat and many other low carb related issues. However, simply put a low carb diet is where you restrict your daily amount of carbs and sugar.

A low carb diet is not only safe to do long-term but many people have been living on a low carb diet for several  years. 

This is a question I always get asked. The fact is there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Essential means your body needs it to function. Protein is essential and so are fats but not carbs.  The brain needs a certain amount of glucose a day, however this can be provided through the leafy green vegetables you will eat on a low carb diet. Glucose can also be created through the other sources in your body without the need for carbs. This and much more information you will find in our Knowledge Centre once you join the Tribe family.

If you have diabetes and are on medication we would advise consulting with your Doctor before you start Tribe. The low carb nutrition aspect of Tribe will help to reduce your blood sugar.  Also, if you are taking medication which lowers your blood sugar, you are sceptical to hypoglycaemia (extremely low blood sugar). Coordination with your Doctor will help to monitor your blood sugar levels and also reduce any medication where and when your Doctor may see fit.

If you have pre-diabetes and are not taking any medication, a low carb diet is one of the best things you can do for your blood sugar levels. I reversed my pre-diabetes using the L.E.A.N MindBody Method without medication.

If you are on blood pressure medication and start a low carb diet, there is a risk of getting a low blood pressure (hypotension). Adopting a low carb diet is a great way to lower your blood pressure and this blood lowering effect can happen within days. If you are also taking medication to lower your blood pressure, it could drop your levels too low and affect your health. With this in mind, you would need to be more mindful and monitor your blood pressure often to ensure it does not drop too low. Having high blood pressure will not stop you from following the L.E.A.N MindBody Method. If you feel weak, tired, dizzy etc., at any time, you should check your blood pressure to see if it has dropped too low.

The mainstream media often demonises saturated fat and cholesterol. They claim these compounds, clog arteries and cause heart disease. If that were true, a low carb diet would be terrible for your heart as it has you loading up on high-fat foods such as bacon, eggs, and nuts. The truth? Consuming cholesterol and saturated fat does not cause cardiovascular disease.

Also, a recent 2018 study published in Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology reviewed data from over one million individuals and concluded that LDL  (termed as the bad cholesterol) does not cause heart disease.

Certainly, a low carb diet can be an excellent way to lose excess weight, while still eating all the nutritious foods that you and your baby need.
