A low carb diet is not only safe to do long-term but many people have been living on a low carb diet for several years.
This is a question I always get asked. The fact is there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Essential means your body needs it to function. Protein is essential and so are fats but not carbs. The brain needs a certain amount of glucose a day, however this can be provided through the leafy green vegetables you will eat on a low carb diet. Glucose can also be created through the other sources in your body without the need for carbs. This and much more information you will find in our Knowledge Centre once you join the Tribe family.
If you have diabetes and are on medication we would advise consulting with your Doctor before you start Tribe. The low carb nutrition aspect of Tribe will help to reduce your blood sugar. Also, if you are taking medication which lowers your blood sugar, you are sceptical to hypoglycaemia (extremely low blood sugar). Coordination with your Doctor will help to monitor your blood sugar levels and also reduce any medication where and when your Doctor may see fit.

If you are on blood pressure medication and start a low carb diet, there is a risk of getting a low blood pressure (hypotension). Adopting a low carb diet is a great way to lower your blood pressure and this blood lowering effect can happen within days. If you are also taking medication to lower your blood pressure, it could drop your levels too low and affect your health. With this in mind, you would need to be more mindful and monitor your blood pressure often to ensure it does not drop too low.
